Dr Simon Arnesen - Vet Director
Hi, I’m Dr Simon Arnesan and I have recently joined the VetLove veterinary team at Ballina. I was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, where I spent my first 20-odd years.I originally enrolled in a veterinary degree because I had a keen interest in the scientific side of things, but as I progressed through the course I realised how much of a great career being a veterinarian would be.
Upon graduating, I started work in South Australia and continued there for most of my career. I have also spent several years practicing in the United Kingdom. During my career, I had the pleasure of working with a huge number of species, from snakes and seals to alpacas.
Now, 15 years later, I still love what I do. It is a pleasure and a blessing to help my clients care for their pets every day. I have a keen interest in orthopaedic surgery and find great satisfaction in repairing broken limbs in pets.
Outside of work, I have a great passion for the ocean and mountains. I’m a keen free-diver and love spearfishing and chasing crayfish. I also spend a lot of time at the beach, swimming in the ocean with my two young children. Growing up in New Zealand, I used to do a lot of mountain climbing in the snow and skiing. I also enjoy bush walks of all shapes and sizes and getting up to waterfalls and into the mountains.
I am very excited to have moved to this beautiful part of the world and to be working at VetLove. I admire the passion VetLove has for patient care, with such a caring attitude for both people and their pets.
Dr Sally - Veterinarian
Hi! my name is Sally and I’m very excited to join the Vetlove Ballina team as a vet. I studied at the University of Queensland, originally completing a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology and Ecology before completing my Bachelor of Veterinary Science (hons).
I have always wanted to be a vet and from a young age was fascinated by all types of animals and the environment they live in. I’m originally from Hervey Bay but wanted to move to the Northern Rivers for the idyllic location. Being new to the area, I’m enjoying exploring the local attractions and spending my time at the beaches.
I don’t have any pets of my own as of yet, so I have to settle for playing with your pets while I’m at work.
Jayne Wilson - Practice Manager
Having grown up on a farm outside Lismore I have been around animals all my life. I started my nursing career at Lismore Veterinary Clinic over 20 years ago where I gained invaluable experience and fell in love with all aspects of the job. Apart from periods overseas travel and having children have never wanted to do anything else. I have lived in Ballina since 1996 and am married with 2 teenage boys, no pets at the moment but love taking Onyx the clinic cat home on weekends. I have worked for Shaws Vet Hospital since 2008 and feel very much connected with the clients the pets and community. Since joining the VetLove family I have happily taken on the role of practice manager and am enjoying the new challenge.

Sarah has been nursing since 2010 at our Sister clinic VetLove Goonellabah and has achieved her Certificate 4 in Veterinary Nursing.
Sarah’s passion is in the hospital caring for patients in recovery, being a part of their care and comfort is a great feeling.
At home she cares for her two cats who are sisters – Sweets’ & ‘Bones who have a lot to say and their new buddy Amber a rescue Kelpie x who keeps everyone busy!
Kalinda Clarke - Veterinary Nurse
Kalinda started studying vet nursing in 2014 and have been working with VetLove for 4 years now.
She adores caring for young animals and setting them up for a healthy future through client education and ongoing support. She also finds caring for the golden oldies enormously rewarding as they've given us so much love in their lifetime.
Kalinda has two cats of her my own - Primrose and Toulouse. Both were rescued through work at 5 and 6 weeks respectively and have added a whole lot of colour to her world. She hopes in the future to have a dog or three, but for now the cats are enjoying all of her attention.
"My cat was hit by a car in front of our house last week. I rushed to the nearest vet, and even though I was not a client they took us in straight away. Sadly, he did not make it, but the staff were so lovely and gave me time and space to say my goodbyes. This week we received a lovely card from them in the mail. I will certainly be visiting this vet again when we get our next pet".
"Fantastic service, at Vetlove every vet we have seen has been great with our cat and now our new puppy! The little puppy goodie bag is adorable, she is chewing on the new toy now".

"The staff here are wonderful and they always seem to be able to fit us in when we have an emergency. Even Oscar and Rory don't seem to mind it (our cats)! Highly recommended."
"VetLove are wonderful, professional, loving care of my friends dog who sustained a nasty dog bite. The procedure fully explained, happy outcome after surgical procedure, after care explained in lay mans terms, cost very reasonable. Throughly recommend this wonderful vet practice. Also noticed how happy staff interact with each other, pet owners and our precious fur babies."
"My little girl Cinnamon very sadly, after putting up a good fight, didn't make it.Simon was her main vet while I also saw Lauren once. The day that I knew it was time to let my little girl go vet Lauren and Mallika were so respectful. Lauren was kind, empathetic, honest, gentle and allowed as much time as I needed to say goodbye. Thankyou".
"Very friendly and knowledgeable staff at Vetlove. We had to take our precious Burmese there and they could not have been more loving and caring as was quite a heartbreaking ordeal and lots of decisions to be made. very patient and thorough explaining everything to us several times and no judgment at all. Helped keep costs low whilst giving our baby the best treatment. Thank you so very much. see you in a week for a check up - 5 STARS most definitely!Coco and Latte our Burmese mummy and daughter"
"Dr Yuki is amazing. Stoked Vetlove is our local looking after our fur babies"
"Thank you all at Vetlove so much for helping Little Bikkie with her laceration. She loved each and every one of you, and I do too! You are all so amazing and helpful and friendly and our little pickle will see you soon. Thank you!"
"This clinic has such welcoming and personable staff. They are very thorough with all of their examinations and has an obvious love of animals no matter how big or small. I had a German Shepherd puppy with an abnormal gait and a Russian Blue cat with plaque on his teeth. Despite the variances in conditions, both of my animals were treated with an equal amount of love and kindness from all the staff. 6 months on, my not so little puppy has a near to perfect gait and my feline prince has nice pearly whites again. All fees are charged at reasonable rates with the convenience of a regional location".
